Mr. Michael Colby
I was born and raised in sunny San Diego. I completed high school in northern California, graduating from Argonaut High School. I then moved back to San Diego to begin my higher education. I attended community colleges in San Diego and Orange County and then transferred to Cal State Long Beach. At CSULB, I obtained my BA in History and my Credential in Social Science.

At the beginning of my senior year in high school, I was helping my sister with her homework when I realized that I wanted to become a teacher. History had grabbed my interest in Jr. High, and Hip Hop music from groups like Public Enemy and KRS ONE fueled my thirst for studying history even more. For over 15 years, I have worked in education as a Sunday school teacher, Camp Councilor, Teacher Assistant, Substitute Teacher, and Full-Time Teacher. I spent 4 years teaching ESL and traveling in Southeast Asia.

As a teacher, I want to challenge students to think for themselves and to take the initiative to solve problems on their own. To be open minded in order to look at situations from different perspectives and come up with their own conclusions. I strive to help students understand that by knowing what happened in the past, we can have a better understanding of the present and be prepared for what the future may hold.

“Of all our studies, History is best qualified to reward our research” –Malcolm X
